It was excited squeals, several ringers bouncing up and down and huge smiles that occurred during the second rehearsal for Twin Cities Bronze this season. Sure, we were excited to see each other after a week off thanks to the Labor Day weekend, but this energy level went a little further than that.
All of the ringers were standing in their spots for the song we were about to rehearse when two board members quietly left the rehearsal room and then returned – wheeling the 7th octave of bass bell chimes! It was a year of fundraising to get them, and they had finally arrived!
But the exciting surprises didn’t end there. No, in Twin Cities Bronze, when we tend to do things, we go to the extreme.
As a thank you to Board President Linda Maloney, our Artistic and Music Director, Amy Maakestad had written a tune "that's been floating around in my head for a couple of years and I finally had the opportunity to put it down on paper this summer." Coincidentally – or not – her "Hymn" featured our first performance of the bass chimes. And when they rang out on the first chord, you could see the goosebumps popping up on all the ringer's arms.
These surprises are just the kick off for this season. Stay tuned for what's still to come.
